"Samantha Rix Memorial Race" May 1st, Byron Dragway

Postby Turbo-Fun » Tue Apr 05, 2011 10:26 pm

It’s confirmed! Our first race of the year, The Samantha Rix Memorial Race will be at Byron Dragway on Sunday May 1st. This is also Byron’s Big Spring Nationals event. “BJ” has agreed to let us participate in this event AND reduce the spectator fee for the Chicagoland Buick Club members. The regular spectator fee for this event is $25. For Chicagoland Buick Club members the spectator fee will be $15, and the race fee will be $30.

Sunday May 1st will be Byron’s 8th Annual Spring Nationals - Nostalgia Nitro Funny cars - Chicago Wise guys - MWSS Mafia - Short track bracket nationals - and the World Famous Chicagoland Buicks. As you can see this is going to be a day filled with spectacular racing. This will be a very busy day at Byron. BJ has a few requests to help make everything go as smoothly as possible.

First and most important…In order to receive the reduced spectator fee he is requesting a list of racers and their spectators to be e-mailed to him by Tuesday April 25. This means I need to have everybody’s name by Monday April 24th. PER “BJ” he would really prefer not to have any add-on names to the list after the April 25th. He absolutely will not accept any add-on names the day of the race. His reason is there will be at least 5 to 7 people who will have the list at the gate and it would be too difficult to add names onto everybody’s list.

Second…BJ is requesting that we arrive early enough to get our cars ready to start qualifying runs at 10:00. He will give me the assigned lanes and wants us in them by 9:45 AM. We may be the first group of cars down the track. We will have two qualifying runs and then into eliminations as quickly as possible to get as many rounds completed before the show starts in the afternoon.

Third…He asked that we pit on the Byron Hill side of the track either in the grass or on the concrete. The concrete he is talking about is that exit lane that is always closed where the trees used to be. We have parked there before. Look for Dave’s camper…lol. Please pit as close together as possible.

We will be qualifying on a Sportsman ladder by best reaction time. This year there will be points given to the top qualifiers. Best Reaction Time and Run on Your Dial-In payouts will be the same as last year, $25 for each during eliminations only. You can only win each category one time. Double payout for a perfect reaction time. Buick club race fee is $15, ten for the race and five towards the final point’s standings.

Please take the time to make sure your membership is up to date. If you’re not sure of your membership status, e-mail Shari Bonecutter to confirm. If you need to update your membership please make arraignments to have this completed before qualifying on May 1st.

Please post or PM any questions you have about this race or the race series in general and I’ll do my best to help. Good Luck to everybody and have a safe and fun year of racing. :D :D :D :D :D

That was very hard to do putting you in the spectator column Rocco. Now there are two less V8's to eliminate...
For those of you who don't know, Ed Phifer has jumped ship. He has traded his beautiful black GS for a 2011 Mustang GT, 6 speed manual. :( I'll let Ed splain this to everybody...

Yes it is true. I had several reasons. I wanted the Buick to drive and last year I put about 500 miles on it and the year before about the same. There is more going on that I can't really talk about right now but I was going to have to take this season off due to some family issues that are going on and I am going to have a lot less time for a while. I am planning on getting another Buick in a couple years. I plan on watching a race this year. Thanx for the fun and memories.

I got Jason and Patrick but due to old age I will need last names for the list...

Uh Oh....Pete Van Tholen was coming on strong last year. I think the Lap Top cars might have some Big Block competition after all... 8) Hey Pete, I think it would be a good idea to go back to a four speed for racing.....don't you?
